Aesop Opens First Wellington Store
This month saw the opening of Aesop's first Wellington store location as the brand further expands into New Zealand. Aesop is an Australian skin care brand based in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to skin care, Aesop also produces hair care, soaps and fragrance with a total of over 80 hair, skin and body care formulations. Each Aesop store has a unique interior design developed in collaboration with various architects, interior designers and artists. As of 2017, the brand had over 183 points of sale across 50 countries. For the Wellington location Aesop signed on specialist interior architect, Rufus Knight who has worked with Kowtow, Lonely and other retailers on their spacial offering.
The store is located in Wellington’s Change House, where law and commerce was once practised and is situated in the heart of Wellington’s CBD. All of this was taken into the design of the store using strong association to trade, maritime heritage and the inter-war transitional style that blended Art Deco, the Chicago School and New York Skyscraper styles. Featuring perfectly oiled timbers, polished brass and specialist plaster, the space defines the history with a new contemporary retail experience.
